Rookie Programme

Our Rookie Lifeguard Programme provides a vital bridge between junior surf and lifeguarding.

Aimed at 13 year olds, the free programme introduces Rookies to lifeguarding skills such as first aid, CPR, communication (radio and other) and patrolling requirements to prepare them to pass the Lifeguard Award when they turn 14.

Course Information 

Pre-requisites: 

  • Be 13 years of age by the 1st October 
  • Be able to swim 200 meters in a pool under 4mins 30seconds 
  • Current member of a surf life saving club 


Duration:
Variable depending on competence and instruction structure, generally 2-8 weeks 


Candidate requirements: 

  • Participate in four patrols (no less than 12 hours in total) 
  • Complete all Rookie Surf Lifeguard Log Book Modules


Outcomes: 
At the completion of the qualification candidates will be able to:

  1. Identify the role of a Surf Lifeguard
  2. Demonstrate a range of Surf Lifeguard skills
