1 May

We acknowledge the success of the season across all disciplines from canoes to beach to pool to board, ski and iron – what a season.  We welcomed new members this year – great impact to have not just them but also Ange and Nigel, Rachel, Nicky, Anita and Darren.  We also welcomed to our new seniors from the junior ranks – Kahlo, Maitland, Grace, Scarlett and Chloe.

It was an incredible season with so many highs including...

  • Pool competitions – good turnout and having a great time
  • Beginner ski on the River
  • Representation at the World Club Champs – Tyler and Rosie
  • Before we moved into pre season training at Lyttleton and pre season races – Quail Island, Causeway and Taylors to Sumner
  • A and B grade for our two Interclubs and all that before Xmas
  • Athletes trained 6 days a week across beach, board, ski
  • And we had fun doing Canterbury Champs in Canoes before racing at the weekend including combining with Juniors for board and tube rescues – great chance for our juniors to learn how it’s done
  • That brought us to the busy end of the season with a small but keen team head to ERCs with medals from Tahere and Chloe
  • Then South Islands with huge surf on day one and lots of learnings, to a cancelled day 2
  • Finally we got to Nationals – which was looking a bit unlikely in the week leading up to it with some shocking weather – but amazingly they got through a full programme and we came away with 4 new national champions
